Jean trained at a local dancing school in East London, obtaining her IDTA Associate Certificates (teaching certificates) in Ballet, Tap and Modern. She is now a Life Member of the IDTA. She studied for her ISTD qualifications under the Jason School of Dance in Enfield, achieving Associate Certificates in Modern Theatre in 1985 and Tap in 1987. She went on to pass her Licentiate exam in Modern Theatre in 2003, and then achieved CDE status for Tap and Modern Theatre in 2007.
Jean danced for a couple of years as a semi-professional in a dance troupe, before starting teaching.
She joined the Carol Allen School of Dancing in 1974, where she initially taught just Modern and then introduced Tap. She now teaches tap to children age 4 years upwards to adults.
